I learned ET to help my big boy who had been written off by vets.
When I bought my first horse in 2008 I made all the mistakes in the book when buying a horse… The dealer’s vet almost failed him during the vetting and he really should have done. The horse was an 8 year old Dutch Warmblood named T-Bjorn and a lovely boy. So he came into my life and soon afterwards he went very lame and things seemed to go from bad to worse. He was first diagnosed with navicular syndrome in three feet – both front and one hind foot - and then suspensory ligament problems in both hind legs. This was in 2009. We were in and out of veterinary hospitals and I was told he would be an expensive lawn mower and if I wanted a horse to ride I should get another one.
Then I read about ET and booked onto my first course. What a joy! My big lad soon became an ET addict and I did level 2 in the same year and some time later level 3. I thoroughly enjoyed all the courses and putting what I learnt into practice. I have worked on some RDA ponies who really appreciate it, and occasionally friends’ horses but mostly on T-Bjorn who has been doing much better than expected although it hasn’t been plain sailing. At one point a vet gave me a prescription for lots of Danilon saying he would need increasingly more of it. But I hardly ever used it so it is now out of date.
It’s been an incredible learning journey which I would not have been on without T-Bjorn. He is still an ET addict and has his regular sessions. As soon as I ask him ‘would you like some ET ‘and start to run my hands down his meridian lines he visibly relaxes and by the time I’ve finished he is half asleep. Not only do I think that the ET has helped him a lot physically over the years but it has also brought us very close together.
