PHOTO EXTRAVAGANZA

GENERAL RULES

The title for the IETA Photographic Competition 2022 is “Moments of Magic”. The theme is open to your personal interpretation but we’re looking for photographs of horses, dogs and people, illustrating their involvement in any of our three modalities. It’s really up to you how you interpret “Moments of Magic”.

Photos should clearly show a link with any of our three modalities. IETA’s decision as to the eligibility of individual photographs will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Everyone sending in a photograph will be entered in a Prize Draw for a special ‘Jubilee Goodie Bag’. The 25 photos considered by the judges to be the best, will go forward for selection in our 2023 Equine Touch Jubilee Calendar. Where an entrant submits more than one photo, they can only be entered in the Prize Draw the once but may have more than one photo selected for the calendar.

The competition closes at 10:00 am on Friday September 24th 2022. Entries received after this date will not be considered.

The Prize Draw will be made on 28 September 2022 and the winner informed. The 12 winning photos will be selected at the same time and their owners informed. Each will receive a complimentary copy of the calendar when released.

Terms and Conditions

1.      Photographs entered must be in landscape orientation. A caption/date/brief description of the scene is mandatory.

2.      Entrants can submit up to five photos in total as JPEGS emailed to ietaukandireland@gmail.com. Photos should be of good quality and a suitable resolution to be included in the calendar - 1600 x1200 pixels or greater recommended although most smart phones are known to produce good results. We cannot be held responsible if a prize winning photo can not be included as the quality is unacceptable for printing.

3.      We will not accept hard copies sent through the post.

4.      IETA is aware that digital photography does allow for some image enhancement. You can enter images that have had spots, scratches or other blemishes removed. You can have worked on the colour or enhanced the image for the sake of the composition. You can also crop the image to improve composition.

5.      We will not accept composite images - entries that stitch two or more separate photographs together to make one image, or entries that superimpose elements photographed separately onto an image.

6.      We want you to stay faithful to the spirit of the competition, and never deceive the viewer or misrepresent the aspect of what is being portrayed. IETA and the judges reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.

7.      The competition is open to UK and Ireland residents only (including residents of the Channel Islands and Isle of Man) and current International members of IETA UK & Ireland. IETA Committee/IETA Work Party, as well as their immediate families are not eligible to enter. Entrants need to be over the age of 18 to enter.

8.      Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer will be considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs.

9.      IETA or their subsidiaries cannot accept any responsibility for any problem with the internet service provider, network or other system which may result in any entry being delayed or not properly registered.

10.   Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted and no feedback on any entry will be provided.

11.   All photographs will be judged on the following criteria:

·       Suitability for inclusion in the Equine Touch Silver Jubilee calendar

·       Public and IETA appeal

·       Works to the theme

·       Originality

·       Composition

12.   All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries or their animals. Where an individual or a residential or commercial property, belonging to someone other than the photographer is featured, or it has been taken on private land the photographer must seek permission and be prepared to provide written consent, when requested by IETA. Further, entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.

13.   We are looking for original photographs, so entries must not have won any national or international competition prize previously. For the purposes of this competition, ‘national’ refers to the whole of the UK – or to individual national competitions in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

14.   Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to the IETA. By entering the competition all entrants grant to the IETA the right to publish and exhibit their photographs in print, on social media and on the IETA’s websites or any other media in perpetuity and the right to edit the photographs for this purpose. Entrants waive any moral rights that they have in the photographs. Entrants whose photographs are one of the final 12, also agree to take part in post – competition publicity. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses. While we make every effort to credit photographers, including in printed reproductions of their work, we cannot guarantee that every broadcast use of the photographs will include the photographers' names. Entrants must ensure that the photograph is not used to publicise or promote companies, individuals, organisations or causes – other than those related to IETA and IETA events and the winning photographer themselves – until the 1st January 2023. Entrants whose photographs are one of the finalists or selected to appear in the IETA Jubilee Calendar 2023 grant to the IETA (including IETA’s subsidiaries and other publishers authorised by the IETA) the further rights to publish and exhibit their photographs

15.   Following standard industry practice, the IETA may undertake background checks of the shortlisted finalists. Information discovered, or that may have been disclosed by the entrants themselves will inform the decision as to the selection of the shortlisted entries, and the eventual winner.

16.   By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules and the IETA reserves the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if the IETA has reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules, acted fraudulently in any way or brings the IETA into disrepute.

17.   The IETA reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.

18.   If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, the IETA reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up, or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.

19.   Please take your photos responsibly and with due consideration to associated risks and possible health and safety issues.

20.   Entrants must not cause injury or do anything to distress any animal or damage its habitat, either deliberately or inadvertently whilst trying to take a photograph.

21.   We will not accept any photos thought to be captured using drones.

22.   The Prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for monetary value or for any other form of compensation. If for any reason any element of the Prize is not available, the Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion to substitute that Prize for another of equal or greater value.

23.   The Prize must be taken as stated and no compensation will be payable if a winner is unable to use the Prize as stated. No cash alternative is available.
